One fine
day grandpa Newton was sitting in his rocking chair. He had finished the chores for the day. As he sit there he decided to
take him a nap. He closed his eyes and rocked back and forth. But the sound of the clock going tic tock kept him from drifting
off to sleep. Grandma Nancy was cooking dinner. That noise also interrupted his nap. His ears even picked up the squeaking
sound from the kids swinging on a tree branch. All the noises put together kept grandpa Newton from taking a nap. Tic Tock,
cling clang and squeal squeak is all the noise that Grandpa Newton heard. He got up and out the back door he went. Coming
to a halt at the big oak tree. Grandpa laid down for his nap. No faster then grandpa Newton laid down he was snoring. Meanwhile,
Grandma Nancy was finishing up the dinner rolls. She set them out to cool, while she rounded up the family. She went in the
living room to get Grandpa, but he wasn’t there. She went out the front door. Grandma said, Beth and Max dinner is ready.
She said have you grandkids seen grandpa. They both answered no. Grandma told them to go find grandpa Newton because dinner
is getting cold. Beth and Max headed toward the back of the house. Max spotted grandpa. Max said there he is Beth. Max said,
I will race you to grandpa. Beth said ok. They started running toward him. That’s when they noticed a black line going
up his arm into his left pocket. Beth said look at them ants. Max said lets get grandma. They ran into the back door yelling
ants grandma. Grandma grabbed her broom. She followed her grandkids. When she
got to Grandpa Newton her broom went to sweeping. It woke grandpa up real fast. He said grandma what in tire nation are you
doing? She said I’m trying to keep you from being dinner. He replied what do you mean. She said you have ants running
up and down your arm into your shirt pocket. Grandpa jumped up doing a little jig. He was brushing the ants of his arm and chest. Beth and Max was laughing. Grandpa told them that he was a sweet old man. But he didn’t
mean that he was sweet enough for ants too eat. Grandma Nancy said they are attracted to something sweet in your pocket. That’s
when grandpa remembered that he had put a piece of tootsie roll in his pocket. He reached in his pocket and pulled it out
with ants on it. Grandma Nancy said grandkids now that we have saved grandpa Newton from being dinner for an army of ants.
Let’s go enjoy our dinner.
